In the 1980s, Steve Barton was part of the band called Translator. Hailing
from San Francisco, they signed to a four-album deal with 415/Columbia Records. The band toured constantly, headlining as
well as sharing the bill with such acts as REM, David Bowie, Psychedelic Furs, The B-52s and Gang of Four. Steve's song Everywhere
That I'm Not is their most well known number. The band's four videos include one that was filmed in Bombay, India. Working
with renowned record producer David Kahne, the first two albums captured the bands live energy as well as their love of making
diverse pop records. Changing producers for the third and fourth LPs to Ed Stasium (Talking Heads, Ramones), the group continued
evolving and creating vibrant rock & roll music.
Steve's debut solo CD, The Boy Who Rode His Bike Around The World, was
released in 2000. Anny Celsi's current release "Little Black Dress & Other Stories", includes her
cover version of the Translator song "No Time Like Now", on which she is joined by Steve on vocals and guitar. Steve
adds guitar to several of her songs on the CD as well. Indie label Beluga Records in Chicago included two of Steve's
songs on their Beluga On The Rocks compilation album. He has co-written songs with other artists including John Wesley
Harding who released one of these collaborations, Summer Single, as the lead track on his Pett Levels CD.
Songwriter Brandon Schott's CDs, "Release" and "Golden State" feature Steve's guitar playing
on many of the songs.
2005's Charm Offensive was produced by Ed Stasium. Its In October 2003, the band travelled to Liverpool
to play at The Cavern Club as a way of introducing the songs to a wider audience. Former Translator drummer Dave Scheff appears
on two tracks, including a cover of the Beatle song She's Leaving Home.
