Wounded Bird Records has reissued all four of the original Translator albums on CD, for the first time ever! Each CD contains bonus tracks. Almacantar Records will be releasing "Different Time", a collection of outtakes, demos and live tracks hand-picked by the band. Later in 2007, Almacantar will also put out "Time Of The Miracles" (an unreleased album that the band cut in 1993). UK label Evangeline Records will release a 2-CD collection of Translator songs in June 07. Lots going on!

Translator reunited for three shows at South By Southwest in Austin on March 15, 16 and 18, 2006. The show on the 15th saw the band play at Cafe Caffeine. At that gig, the PA system fizzled out at the end of the set. The band played on with Dave Scheff switching to brushes and the guitars all turning waaaaay down. I sang "Everywhere That I'm Not" without the aid of a microphone. It was quiet and a really cool version of the song. A happy accident. The crowd gave us an encore. The following night was our main SXSW show at The Elysium. We shared the bill with The Like and The Alarm. Another encore followed that set! Saturday the 18th was the Pop Culture Press party. This was a real highlight for us. Richie Furay (Buffalo Springfield, Poco) played a beautiful set right before we hit the stage. I was moved. Our set was rocking and good. Another encore! Beatle Bob was dancing in front of the stage. It was great to share that bill with old friends Peter Case, Jules Shear and Steve Wyn. A memorable event.

Translator is Steve Barton, Dave Scheff, Larry Dekker and Robert Darlington. Formed in Los Angeles in 1979, they moved to San Francisco where they signed with 415/Columbia Records. The band released four albums: Heartbeats And Triggers; No Time Like Now; Translator; Evening Of The Harvest. At present, their songs are only available from iTunes. The albums are not currently available on CD, but a careful trip to your local vintage vinyl record shop might just lead you to these gems.

Although Everywhere That I'm Not would prove to be their biggest single, crowd favorites include Necessary Spinning, O Lazarus, Fall Forever, Favorite Drug, New Song and Nothing Is Saving Me.
